Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 15, 2005 (SL Times) – Somaliland Security Authorities barred a man called Ali Mohamed Hassan from entering the country shortly after he arrived at Hargeysa airport on a UN-chartered flight on last Sunday.

According to Somaliland migration authorities, Mr. Hassan wanted to enter the country while concealing his true identity as one of the TFG’s top security officers. “He was not allowed to alight the plane and the pilot was ordered to take him outside Somaliland ” said a spokesman for the Hargeysa airport authorities.

But the Somaliland Times has learnt that Ali Mohamed Hassan, alias Ali Madoobe, was actually sent by the Jowher-based faction of Somalia ’s TFG on a military intelligence gathering mission to Somaliland .

Part of his assignment was to establish a network of spies in Hargeysa, Buroa and Einabo for the purpose of gathering information on Somaliland ’s defense capabilities particularly around Las-Anod area. He intended to spend 2 nights in Hargeysa and then travel by land to Buroa and further to Einabo before reaching Las-Anod.

Officially, Ali Madoobe holds the position of police commissioner under the Abdillahi Yusuf faction of the TFG. Practically, he serves as the faction’s top spy.

Officials of the TFG are not allowed to set foot on Somaliland soil. Permission for the TFG leaders to use UN sponsored flights is usually authorized by the coordinator of humanitarian assistance for Somalia , G. Maxwell.
