Nairobi , Kenya , October 25, 2005 (PANA) - The African Regional Organisation of the International Confederation of Free Trade Union (ICFTU-AFRO), Monday condemned the detention and harassment of union leaders and workers in Djibouti and Mauritius .

ICFTU-AFRO Secretary General, Andrew Kailembo, said in a statement, the Confederation had written to Djibouti President Ismael Guelleh, protesting the "mass detention" of port workers and the dismissal of 11 trade union officials following a strike last month.

The Confederation has also a sent a protest note to the Mauritian Labour Minister Vasant Bunware following the suspension of the Mauritius Airliner Pilots Association (MALPA) President, Russlan Ramdowar.

The ICFTU-AFRO represents 15 million workers from 60 organisations in 47 African countries.
