Col. Abdillahi Yusuf Shows His Terrorist Colors

Somalilanders will hardly be surprised by the news that Abdillahi Yusuf is now soliciting the help of the Ogaden National Liberation Front, with the purpose of bolstering his violent campaign of grabbing Somaliland territory. After all, this is a warlord who in pursuit of power over the last 3 decades has repeatedly shown that he wouldn’t hesitate to ally himself with the devil, if that would serve his ultimate aim. Until quite recently, Abdillahi Yusuf liked portraying himself as the only Somali leader at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in the region. Now he is not ashamed to speak proudly to his militiamen of his newly established links with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) which, despite its misleading name, is widely believed to be the organization responsible for the facilitation and execution of terror activities, not only in Ethiopia, but also across the Horn of Africa. By cooperating with an organization that is the linchpin of terrorism in the Horn of Africa, Col. Abdillahi Yusuf has finally shown the world his true colors: that he is a willing accomplice of avowed terrorists. The world community and countries in East Africa that have been victimized by terrorism should take notice of this fact, and do something about it, before it is too late.

In addition to his new found alliance with terrorist organizations such as the ONLF, the world community in general, and East African countries in particular, should be concerned that the port of Bosasso which is controlled by Col. Abdillahi Yusuf has become a hub for illicit trade in narcotics, human trafficking and forged Somali currency.

After terrorizing his Majeerteen clan for many years without anyone stopping him, the tyrant of Garowe has recently decided to give his neighbor, Somaliland, a taste of his aggression by invading Somaliland's Sool region. Somaliland is capable of defending itself from the tyrant's aggression. But countries involved in the fight against terrorism must understand that the mix of engaging in illicit activities at the port of Bosaso, plus his newly found alliance with terrorist organizations such as the ONLF, makes Col. Abdillahi Yusuf part of the global terrorist threat. Countries in the region, as well as all those involved in the fight against terrorism, should join hands with Somaliland in putting an end to this threat.
