ST. PAUL, June 02, 2004 (AP) – The 25-year-old man who was found dead in a hotel swimming pool over the holiday weekend was identified as Osman Sufi of St. Paul, authorities said Tuesday.

Sufi, a native of Somalia, was found at the bottom of the pool at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown St. Paul around 5:30 p.m. Monday, about an hour after he checked in, St. Paul police said.

Investigators are certain his death was accidental, said officer Paul Schnell, a police spokesman.

Gill Brothers Funeral Chapels, which is handling the arrangements, said Sufi's body will be flown back to his father in Kenya. No other funeral information was available.

Ahmed Ali, a cousin, said that Sufi might have had a heart condition but that he did not know the severity of it. Also, he said, Sufi recently had eye surgery, but he said he did not know what role, if any, these medical conditions might have played in the death.
Sufi, who liked to travel, recently passed his citizenship test and was awaiting his U.S. passport, Ali said.

"He was really looking forward to getting his passport so he could go back to Kenya," Ali said. "Now they'll be flying his body back instead."
