- Risks For Rayale In His Policy Of Abandonment

Hargeisa, July 24, 2004 (SL Times) – The Chairman of Somaliland’s Justice and Welfare Party, Faysal Ali Warabe, accused the editor of the BBC’s Somali Service of abandoning journalistic ethics and fairness in relation to Somaliland.

“The Somali Service under the leadership of Yusuf Garad has been turned into a broadcast station that aggressively spreads anti-Somaliland propaganda campaign,” Mr. Faysal A. Warabe said.

The opposition leader pointed out that the Somali Service’s reporting on Somaliland either lacked objectivity or was full of negative information.

Mr. Ali Warabe also claimed that individual staff members of Somaliland origin have been victimized as a result of nepotism allegedly practiced by Mr. Garad.

The Justice and Welfare Chairman also criticized the training program for Somali journalists run by the BBC in Somaliland and Somalia.

“The BBC training staff have illicitly sought funds from international organizations operating in Somaliland though the project has already been funded,” Faysal said. He concluded by saying, “We are aware of the abuse of project funds and the puppets being used by Mr. Garad.”

"These illicit practices must stop," Faysal Ali Warabe added.
