Questions for discussion

Discuss five factors you would consider essential to ensure the success of a lesson you were preparing.

Analyze the following lesson objectives critically, saying how they could be more effectively stated, and why:-

a) To teach addition
b) Pupils should be able to do sums of numbers;
c) Pupils should be able to understand the reasons why explores came to East Africa.

Explain why it is important for a student teacher
d) To make schemes of work
e) To make lesson plans

Why should a teacher use learning aids in his or her lessons?
Practical Work
Study the content of the primary school syllabuses for all subjects.
f) list the topics that overlap and indicate the subjects involved;
g) If you are a student teacher, record the information in (a) and plan how you will handle these areas if you have to teach them in your teaching practice.

Prepare a plan for a lesson which you intend to teach using the discovery method.
Prepare a scheme of work on irrigation in Somaliland. Discuss it with tutor.

Observe a lesson taught by your partner. Explain how he or she introduced the lesson. Discuss the suitability of the introduction.
