Estranged wife desperate to try again with
sex-starved reject

By Grant Hodson & Emma Cox

Jul 18 2004, Sunday Mirror

BIG Brother reject Ahmed Aghil has been offered a second chance by
his estranged wife, who last night confessed: "I've fallen in love
with him all over again - I want him back."

Fouziya Aghil is desperate to give their marriage another go after
seven weeks watching the Somalian refugee getting depressed, bored
and freaking out on the reality show.

And Ahmed has explained to the Sunday Mirror why he went berserk in
the BB house - blaming it on sex.

He said it was a real struggle for him to go without nookie for so
long, admitting: "It's like food. You don't eat, you die. You don't
have sex, you go insane. I went insane."

Now it looks like there could be a reconciliation between Ahmed, 44,
and his estranged wife Fouziya, 35.

Ahmed, who walked out of their marriage last year, admitted after his
eviction that he too still adores Fouziya.
He added: "I've already met the one true love of my life. I don't
want anyone else."

They wed in Somalia 18 years ago and she still cares for their
children, Azara, 10, and nine-year-old Zaki.
Ahmed and Fouziya fled to Kenya after the outbreak of the Somalian
civil war, then made their way to the UK where they were eventually
granted asylum in 1996.

After completing a law degree at the University of North London,
Ahmed gained a job in Liverpool and was given the chance to invest in
several properties in the city while Fouziya stayed in London.

The time apart put a serious strain on the marriage and Fouziya told
Ahmed's best friend Jeylani Ali: "He always made sure we were well
looked after, but I missed him."

She added: "I know he's the best husband and father I could ever
find.

"Watching him on Big Brother has made me realise just how much I love
him. Ahmed is truly kind and generous. He never raises his voice to
me and the children miss him so much."

Fouziya did not meet Ahmed after his eviction on Friday night, when
he was voted out with a whopping 945,535 votes - 56 per cent of the
total - to a chorus of boos and jeers.

But she plans to see him next week at the family home in Tottenham,
North London, after Ahmed finishes his Channel 4 TV appearances.
Fouziya told Jeylani: "I decided about a week ago I want to be
reconciled with Ahmed. He loves his children more than anything in
the world, and I believe he's still in love with me.

"Sometimes, when a partner is working very hard, the other one feels
ignored and it can cause problems. It's something that's experienced
by thousands of couples.

"I can see that being apart from his family has been very difficult
for Ahmed. It made me realise how much he appreciates us."
Jeylani, 46, also told of the heartache Ahmed has suffered since his
marriage split.

He said: "Ahmed told me about the separation in a two-hour phone call
about a year ago. Before he told me, I could tell by his voice he was
depressed.

"I asked what was wrong and he said he and Fouziya had separated. I
was so shocked I didn't know what to say.

"A few weeks later, he told me he'd bought a flat in Liverpool to
live in and when I saw him he still looked gaunt and distraught.
"He told me he would spend hours asking himself, 'What has happened?
How did this situation come about?'

"He was always talking about his wife and children and the situation
was on his mind all the time.

"Whenever he'd talk about Fouziya, he'd say he couldn't hope to meet
a more kind, intelligent, well-educated woman to be his wife. For a
father, to be away from your children is a terrible thing and he is
determined to sort the marriage out for their sakes.

"I know the children have enjoyed seeing Ahmed on TV even though they
miss him. Whenever I see them they always say, 'Did you see my dad on
the show?'

"They're always very excited to watch Big Brother."
But Fouziya became increasingly angry at the way he was being
portrayed on the show.

She believes the house has driven him crazy, leading to his infamous
tantrums, including smashing plates in the garden and hacking up the
Big Brother mannequin.

Fouziya told Jeylani: "Big Brother has made sure Ahmed has not been
shown in his best light. They engineered his eviction from the house.
There's no doubt about it.

"I've been watching him endure all kinds of problems in there and I
feel for him. I hate to see him so unhappy.

"All the family think he hasn't been portrayed fairly. The Ahmed we
know doesn't smash things up."

But, more positively, she added: "I know Ahmed wanted to go on Big
Brother to raise the profiles of Somalis in the UK and to be a good
inspiration to others.

"I hope it's been a positive experience for him - but now our
priority must be to put our marriage back on track."
Ahmed's verdict on...

DAN: I tried hard with him but he just didn't like me. I'm not sure
why.

NADIA: At the start I liked her. But then she started acting as
Marco's bodyguard and that irritated me.

STUART: He is a nice, handsome boy. I think he and Michelle are
having fun.

SHELL: I told her she is too nice to be in that house. She is a
lovely girl.

MICHELLE: She was fine most of the time but she shouted at me during
the task and that annoyed me.

JASON: He was the person I got on with the most. He gave me
confidence.

VICTOR: I would like him or Jason to win. I don't think they were
using me. You could have an intelligent conversation with them.

THE BB ODDS

NADIA and Dan are joint favourites to win Big Brother at 3/1. Other
odds: Michelle 4/1, Stuart 6/1, Shell 10/1, Victor 12/1, Jason 33/1.
Jason is 4/5 to be evicted next.
