Seminar for Introducing Somaliland to Swedish Public Launched
Umea/Sweden (SL Times): A 3 day seminar for introducing Somaliland to Swedish authorities, aid agencies, non-governmental organizations, politicians and media was launched on Thursday in Umea, Sweden. The seminar was organized by the Somaliland community in Sweden.
Among the keynote speakers scheduled to address the meeting are Somaliland Minister of Family Welfare and Social Development, Ms. Edna Adan; former American diplomat and currently an adjunct professor in the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington DC, David Shinn; and Dr. Ahmed Hussein Essa from the Hargeisa based Institute for Practical Research.
A Transcript of David Shinn's presentation entitled "The Horn Of Africa: How Does Somaliland Fit?" has been made available for The Somaliland Times.

| British Government Mission on Visit
to Somaliland |
Hargeisa (SL Times): A British
government mission arrived in Hargeisa yesterday on a 3-day official
visit to Somaliland.
Members of the mission are Mr. Bernard Harborne, senior conflict
Adviser on Africa, Africa Greater Horn and Lakes Department; Mr.
David G Bell, First Secretary at the British High Commission in
Nairobi, and Owen Richards, Second Secretary for Political Affairs
at the British Embassy in Addis Ababa.
The visit of the mission has been reported as being part of a
regional review to develop a strategy for delivering an enhanced
British programme of support.

Hargeisa (SL Times): Abdillahi Ismail
Ali, a former NSS officer, has been appointed as Governor of the
Hargeisa region, while Mohamed Aw Adan will assume the position of
Executive Secretary of the Hargeisa Municipality.
Though Somalilanders elected members of their district councils on
Dec. 15, 2002; the authority for appointing governors and
secretaries for district councils is still vested in the central
government.
