I am impressed and as delighted as all Somalilanders are with the success of this historical event of our blessed nation. I could not be happier than this!!! It would not matter to me who wins today. Because the people of Somaliland are the winners. It is the beginning of a new era, where the real choice of the people, a president with a real constituency to account to, will lead this nation. It is the victory of the people.

It is something to admire, how the Election Commission corrected previous mistakes and enhanced its organizational skills within the short period since the Municipal Elections. It is also worth mentioning that all the political parties had campaigned exceptionally well. And the people responded with a splendid performance, a great turnout.

At a time when the world is feeding warlords and preparing for Somaliweyn, the Arabs tightened economic sanction against us, the Muslim world is turning deaf ears to our call for self-determination, our enemies are hovering around as vultures, waiting for us to fall, and many other obstacles are installed to hinder our progress. At a time when all odds were against us, we succeeded with flying colors, because it never mattered to us who stood in our way or what others thought about us. We knew we could do it and we have done it beyond anyone's wildest expectation. Somaliland stands strong against all odds.

People of Somaliland, Congratulations on this first free presidential election. You own it and it belongs to you. We, all Somalilanders in Diaspora are proud and pleased. Thank you for making us proud.

It is with great pleasure that I send my thanks to the international observers in general, and in particular to the people and government of South Africa, for sending a large team to observe the election. Thank you very much.
