Nairobi, May 9, 2003 (The Nation) - MPs from Igad countries have agreed to draft a protocol for ratification in two months.

During a conference held from May 5 to 7 May in Addis Ababa, the members established an Inter-Parliamentary Union with a secretariat. The meeting was a follow-up on the first union's Inter Govermental Authority on Development meeting held in Djibouti in June 2001.

Speaker Francis ole Kaparo attended the Addis Ababa conference, where Kenya was one of the appointed members of the Committee of Experts to complete writing the protocol.

He was accompanied by MPs Joseph Nkaissery and Samuel Poghisio and government officials.

Officials from Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan attended the meeting.
