Nairobi 19, 2003, (East African Standard) - FV Beira 9, a fishing vessel that had reportedly been hijacked in Somali waters, is expected to dock at the Mombassa port today.

According to the Kenya Ports Authority, the vessel, whose local agents are Benoi Marine Services, will dock after a three-month fishing trip to Somali.

Earlier, there were reports that the vessel, with 12 Kenyan seamen aboard, had been hijacked by Somali warlords around Kismayu. The warlords were said to be demanding an unspecified ransom before they could release the their captives.

However, Mozko Company Director, Mr. Lee Yul, denied the vessel was in the hands of the militias. The company owns the vessel. It is carrying 20 tonne of fish, mainly prawns that are for export to Japan. Yul said that his company operates two other vessels that conduct similar fishing expeditions in Somali.
