Mogadishu, May 30 (IRIB) - At least 18 people were killed when rival militiamen clashed in Ragheh-Elleh village in the middle Shabelleh region of Somalia, witnesses said Friday.

Heavy fighting flared up between militiamen loyal to rival warlords in the village some 90 kilometres northeast of the capital Mogadishu on Thursday, witnesses said.

The fighting began when more than seven battle wagons carrying over a hundred heavily armed militiamen attacked the village on two fronts.

At least 18 people were confirmed dead and two more were wounded as the two sides exchanged heavy gunfire right in the center of the village, according to the eyewitnesses.

"All of the deceased except one were unarmed civilians caught in the middle of the crossfire," said a spokesman for one of the militia groups.
