Hargeisa (SL Times) - Somaliland’s main opposition party KULMIYE has accepted the April 14 presidential election results. In a statement issued in late Sunday night, KULMIYE said, "despite strong grievances of injustice in the election, the party decided to concede the results of the process in the interest of Somaliland."

KULMIYE’s decision came apparently following an appeal, Saturday, by the Council of Somaliland Sultans, for the party to accept the election results.

On April 19, Somaliland's National Electoral Commission declared incumbent president Dahir Rayale Kahin as the winner of the presidential poll. KULMIYE contested the results in Somaliland’s Supreme Court, but the party lost the petition as the Supreme Court reconfirmed Dahir Rayale as the winner by 217 votes. KULMIYE’s rejection of the results continued until last Sunday when it finally endorsed it.
