Hargeisa (SL Times) - Somaliland's National Electoral Commission thanked the governments of the United Kingdom, Denmark and Switzerland for their assistance in support of Somaliland’s presidential election. In three separate thank you notes, sent to the ambassadors of the three countries in Kenya, the NEC expressed its appreciation of their contributions and hoped that the three governments will continue their support of the democratic process in Somaliland.

"The tangible and timely support of the Department for International Development had enabled the NEC to successfully carry out the presidential election," the note to the British High Commissioner in Nairobi said.

The NEC also thanked the government of Denmark saying that the NEC "was confident that the government of Denmark will continue its support to the establishment and consolidation of democratic culture and practices in Somaliland."

In a note to the Swiss government, the NEC chairman Ahmed Haji Ali described Dec 15, 2002 local elections and the April 14 presidential elections as important milestones in Somaliland’s march toward democratic governance.
