Two More Children Recovered From Suspected Kidnappers

Hargeisa (SL Times) - A 5-year-old boy by the name of Zubair Ahmed Ismail was rescued from his kidnappers by the Somaliland police Sunday night. Police authorities disclosed that the child had been severely tortured while under captivity.

A married couple, Hassan Adan Ali (nicknamed Hassan Qulaabi) and Sahra Osman Mohamed, were charged with the kidnapping.

According to Zubair’s father, the child was reported missing since March 14, 2003 and was last seen in front of the family home, situated near Kirih restaurant, north Hargeisa.

A Somaliland Times reporter who visited the child saw wounds all over his arms, legs and groin. A medical examiner attributed the wounds to burns caused by a hot metal. The child is also suffering from psychological trauma as a result of the burns. However 4 days after his rescue, Zubair has yet to be given proper treatment for his physical and psychological wounds.

In a separate case, a man suspected of kidnapping a 2 and ½ year old child was arrested by the police. The man, identified as Amin Abdirahman, reportedly told the police that he had been asked by a woman in Nairobi to take the child by air to another woman living in the Wajale border town.

A third child was also reportedly recovered by the police from a group of suspected kidnappers.

The police disclosed later that this child was brought from Mogdisho. The 3 cases are still being investigated.
