Ministry Yet To Pay Hoteliers In Eldoret

Nairobi, September 18, 2003, (The East African Standard) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs still owes hoteliers in Eldoret an estimated Sh50 million in bills incurred by Somali delegates who recently attended peace talks in the town.

The hoteliers said yesterday that their suppliers had refused to give them any more goods on credit, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had yet to pay the individual hotels as promised.

The Government moved the peace talks from Eldoret to Mbagathi in Nairobi after the hoteliers purportedly raised room and food charges.

The Somali delegates had been in Eldoret for almost four months negotiating for peace in their country and for the formation of a federal government.

The hotels had provided conference facilities, accommodation, meals and secretariat facilities, among services, which was to be paid by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
