Lul Ibrahim Minneapolis , MN , Dec 13, 2005 (CBS/WCCO) – A woman who was critically injured while trying to stop a thief from stealing her sister's car has died, officials said. Lul Ibrahim, 35, died Monday night at Hennepin County Medical Center from injuries she sustained in a carjacking and hit-and-run incident in South Minneapolis . Ibrahim suffered severe head injuries and had undergone emergency brain surgery. Representatives from the Somali community mourned Ibrahim, whom they called a good, hard-working mother of two children. "This is a very sad moment for the community," said Omar Jamal of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center . Police recovered the vehicle but are still looking for a suspect. The Somali Justice Advocacy Center is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. Police said Ibrahim was shopping at the Village Market near the intersection of 24th Street and 10th Avenue South in South Minneapolis around 8:20 p.m. last Thursday. Hawa Hassan, Ibrahim's sister, ran into the store and left her car running. Ibrahim sat in their cousin's vehicle, which was partially blocking the entrance to the parking lot. Officials said when Hassan returned, a man was driving away in her maroon 1996 Mitsubishi Gallant. Ibrahim tried to stop the carjacker from leaving, but the driver hit her and pinned her against another car. "We urge the community to come down," Jamal said. "If they know anything about this, I would urge them to call police."
