Translated and commented by Rhoda A. Rageh

In this song composed by the renowned Hassan Ganay and sung by the soft voice of Mohamed Ahmed and Harawo, the notion men are from Mars, women from Venus seems to be working in reverse. Whatever the plea of the man is, she dismisses it as lust. They totally misunderstand each other. She does not believe a word he says. Even a hint of her ticking biological clock is not enough to move her. One wonders how many times has this woman been deceived by men. What’s remarkable about this song is that he puts her down and all women as vain and idle chatterers yet fancy her; and just like the way he doesn’t consider her humanity as a person, he also dismisses her rather unkind rejections as just another female talk. One wonders when will men and women take each other seriously. The depth of Hassan Ganay’s vocabulary is sometimes hard to translate. However, I hope I managed to bring out the essence of the song.

Inkastoo ay haweenkiyo Raga haatan siman yihiin

Hadana wey is hundoognoo Waad iska hida raacdaan

Hal-adayga dumarkuye Adigoon halkii marinee

Heedhee hilintii aad barateen Hawraarta dheeriyo

Hadal wadkii galey Haynagu haraadinine

Adigiyo hankaaguba Hoos intaad u noqotaan

Danta lama huraanka ah Hareeraha aan qabanee

Soo haabo hubo oo kac Waxaan kuu hayaa

Hadhuub caashaqee Hoo-yoo dhan

Inkastoo aad markii hore Hoos noo dhigayseen

Hadana wey hundoognoo Weyska hido raacdeen

Haraar fudeydkuye Adigoon horaanjiifiyo

Heedhee hamuun gorayadiinii Haw igula soo odhan

Waa waxaad ku heerteen Ku hodeen hablaha qaar

Hayi jilicsanaantu Hidaheenii lumiyee Hebednimada qaarkeed

Haybed guur noqotaa Hubsiimaa nin hal dhan siistey

Waxaan loo heleyn Haan lagu shubee Hay-soo dhan

Sida heega roobiyo Waqal hoos ka da'yiyo

Keentey hoorimaad dhaba Ama hilaaciyo

Inta kala fad leedahay Iyo halaclaciyo muuq dheer

Heedhee guurna ku haboonyahaye Ee lagu hareer marin

Saan horeba kuu idhi Ragna kuu hanweyn yahay

Adigiyo hankaaguba Hoos intaad u noqotaan

Danta lama huraanka ah Hareeraha aan qabanee

Soo haabo hubo oo kac Waxaan kuu hayaa

Hadhuub caashaqee Hooyo dhan

Geed weynba hadoodilan Oo hadhkaa caruurtuye

Heemaalka aragtida Dusha kaaga soo hira

Hadhna aad ka weydaa Farasbaa hanaankiyo

Heedhee heensaha Naftu himilo raacdaa

Oon hudufka moyee Hore u socod orod

Haasaawahaaguna Bal hubsoo wax kuu hadhey

Hebednimada qaarkeed Haybad guur noqotaa

Hubsiimaa nin hal dhan siistee Waxaan loo hadheyn

Haan lagu shubee Haysoo dhan

Although men and women. Are now said to be equal,

Yet we know each other. And your inclination of Female stubbornness.

Without taking that route Yea, the road women usually travel.

Of vain blether And idle prattle. Don’t parch us on redundant chatter. –

Thee and thy ego should Bend down a little.

Let’s attend to the fated need.

Hold hands to cherish it.Rise and reach out.

I hold for thee. The pitcher of passion. Here! Drink it.

Although long before, You belittled us.

Yet we know each other. And your leanings.

For faked feelings. Your desire o’ one night stand!

Yea, Don’t leap on me with.Your ostrich eagerness.

Your famed fraud that. Mislead our girls, their.

Easy acquiescence that Defiled our culture.

May for some idiots.

Seem like a proposal of marriage, a man offered a camel. Assurance -

There isn’t any. Appliance to pour your passion.

Save it and drink it. Like rain in the sphere, Or a torrent in expanse,

Bringing a cloudburst, Or signs of lightning,

Diffused with clouds, And spectacular lightning,

While. Marriage is most suitable, before men walk past you,

like I said earlier, while Men thee fancy,

Thee and thy ego should Bend down a little,

Let’s attend to the fated need

Hold hands to cherish it Rise and reach out.

I hold for you.The pitcher of passion Here! Drink it.

A huge tree shrouds a big space. Its boughs hung to the ground

And its opulence Impresses the eyes, yet.

You mightn’t get any shelter. Or a gorgeous horse, yea.

The splendour of its physique. May entice your gaze.

Yet its effort to gallop may. Not get anywhere.

Thus your adulation.Though unbecoming

may still dupe some idiots As genuine proposal of marriage.

Assurance - a man offered a camel

There isn’t any Appliance to pour your passion. Save it and drink it.
