Ok, folks. Some reality check is in order before I proceed. Wishes do not work and have no place in the real world. They say if wishes were horses beggars would ride, so keep that in mind and do not get heartbroken if wishes do not come true. They rarely do. Anyway, here, true to tradition, are some of my New Year Wishes for Somaliland and its peoples in 2006.

I wish good health for everybody, especially for people living in Somaliland . Getting ill in Somaliland is a dangerous business as no affordable medical services are available for the general public. Not many of you can afford to fix your dentals in Germany or get a punctured lung replaced in Sweden . Eat less Kat and smoke less. Clean your souls and abodes and get rid of the garbage which kills both you and your animals. That prevention is better than cure is really true. Try to cling to your health as long as possible and in any way you can.

For Somaliland-Americans I wish good health, or if they get ill, fat insurance. For people in Western European Welfare States, it is ok if they get a little sick from time to time. Medical Services are widely available and free here – almost

I believe people in most Arabian countries are covered well – medically speaking. So is the case with folks in down-under – the Aussies and the Kiwis. Best of wishes to all of you too.

I wish the new parliament will grow sharp political teeth and bite hard on our run-away Government. Speaking of Constitutional changes, we need a revolution there. I wish the parliament will amend and mend in the many holes of the Constitution. I wish the Guurti will be dissolved. The old men in this court are an impediment to the rule of law. Somaliland ’s interest is not served by old men whose number one talent is to dance for the President. Somaliland should move away from “under the tree” and to the halls of books. The Guurti overstayed both their welcome and role.

To avert further deterioration of the rule of law and order, I wish the two men in our White-House will be held accountable and answerable to the law-makers of the country. As token of respect to the many people who are starving around them, I also wish they will start demanding less money for the little job they do.

I wish the President will get his power back from the kitchen Ministers and chase them away from his courts.   I wish more women will be given positions of real power. I wish the Somaliland people will awaken to the threat of the Saudi Wahaabis who are poised to steal our country, religion and culture.

I wish the Vice-President will stop defending the criminal police which shoot and kill our children and the unarmed civilians. The police not owning riot gear does not justify the shooting they so readily choose as a means of dealing with the public. This excuse is silly and adds insult to the injuries which Somaliland ’s police routinely exact on defenseless people.

I wish we will all be good to each other and stop hurting each other

I wish 2006 will bring recognition and economical prosperity for Somaliland

Finally, I wish some of my neighbors will move away to other parts of the country. I can’t stand the smell of their cooking
