British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Kim Howells

SANA'A, Jan 25, 2006 (Yemen Observer Newspaper) – Rashad al-Alimi, the Minister of Interior, held talks on Tuesday with the British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Kim Howells on joint security cooperation, Saba news reported.

They discussed means of improving efforts in combating terrorism within an international partnership, to serve the common concern of the two countries.

The talks also focused on future cooperation in the exchange of intelligence information. They reviewed issues regarding the development of the Coastguard Authority and role of UK support in protecting Yemen’s regional waters.

They also discussed the current situation in the Horn of Africa, and especially Yemen’s efforts to settle peace in the southern region of Somalia. The two sides also discussed developments in Iraq and world efforts to prevent terrorism.

The British minister also praised the progress of Yemen’s security forces, especially its successful release of the Italian tourists kidnapped earlier this month.
