The Director of Hargeysa Water Agency gives his annaul report before the Guurti house committee

Hargeysa, Somaliland, 28/01/06 (SL Times) – On the 22 Jan 2006, the director of Hargeysa Water Agency, Mr Ali Hassan Mohamed (Ali Asad) was called upon to brief the Guurti (House of Elders) committee on Home Affairs and Human Rights, on the overall operations and performance of his agency for the year 2005.

The director of Hargeysa Water Agency, Mr. Mohamed delivered his agency’s annual report to the Guurti’s House committee chaired by the honorable member, Mr. AbdiQader (Indho-Indho) and gave a detailed testimony for the year 2005 on the agency’s overall achievements, accomplishments and operational problems inherited from previous administrators of Hargeysa Water Agency.

In his long annual report, Mr. Mohamed pointed out to the committee that he had increased the well and water pumping stations working hours to 20 hrs per day, yielding 250,000 metric cubic of water per month. And had installed telecommunication equipment at the various water pump installations, electrical generating stations, and water sub reservoirs and distribution centers. Mr Mohamed said that he created a new post among the administrators at the agency, which solely is responsible for the water distribution side of the agency’s operations and supervision of the water substation reservoirs located inside Hargeysa.

In his report, Mr. Mohamed the director of Hargeysa Water Agency said that “for the very first time in 17 years every house has tap water in the district of Ahmed Dhagah, in Hargeysa. And this is as a result of my agency’s successfully carrying out repairs at the main water supply pipe, which used to supply Ahmed Dhagah district of Hargeysa before the 1988 civil war.” The director said also “the mains water pipe which feeds the district of Sheekh Madar and Geed-Goble has been enlarged considerably due to the heavy demand for water in this highly populated and condensed part of Hargeysa”. Mr. Mohamed continued, “The district of Sheekh Nuur in Hargeysa, had no mains water supply before his arrival at the agency and that Sheekh Nuur district has today continuous supply of tap water in every household thanks to the 1.25 km long mains water pipe that his agency has installed.”

The director of Hargeysa Water Agency said, “In all 3 districts he has mentioned, the agency achieved these repairs and new water supply installations without the financial and technical support of outside sources, and the only assistance we had was in the district of Sheekh Nuur, the residence of this district assisted us in digging the trench line needed for laying the mains water supply pipes.”

At the end of his long and detailed annual report to the Guurti House committee of Home Affairs and Human Rights, Mr. Mohamed the director of Hargeysa Water Agency concluded that all these achievements and accomplishments the agency attained in 2005 could not be possible without the hard working staff of the agency at my side and that I would like to thank them all for their contribution and loyalty.
