Hargeysa, Somaliland , February 18, 2006 – Pupils at Al-Baraka Elementary Intermediate and Secondary schools donated their pocket money allowances on last Wednesday for the rebuilding of Hargeysa bridge project.
The old Irish bridge which was built in the fifties across Hargeysa’s dry river basin was swept away by floods in April 2005.
A committee for raising funds for the building of a new bridge was recently formed by the community.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Hargeysa bridge committee, Adan Baradho, has praised Al-Baraka school children for their fundraising initiative.
A number of other schools, in Hargeysa have now been reported of intending to organize similar fundraising campaigns.
