MP Ikran Met With Somaliland Community In DC

PRESS RELEASE MARCH 10, 2006 Honorable Ikran H. Daud Warsame met with the Somaliland Community in Washington DC on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 4:30 PM. The meeting was well attended by the community; which was excited to meet with Hon. Ikran H. Daud and made her feel welcome. Hon. Ikran is the first elected member of the Somaliland Parliament to visit the United States. Yusuf Kibare spoke on behalf of the community and has welcomed Hon. Ikran to meet with the Somaliland community in Washington DC. Mohamed Jama also shared Hon. Ikran’s background and live story with the community and has introduced her. Ikran thanked organizers and the community members who came to meet with her. She spoke about her experience during the elections; challenges that are facing Somaliland women and called on the women who were present in the meeting to support Somaliland women, particularly those who want to be leaders and candidates for public office. She also spoke about what the new parliament has done so far, the legislations that are being discussed currently, and what the parliament hopes to accomplish before the current session ends within few weeks. The community was very quick to ask many questions and shared comments and recommendations with Hon. Ikran. The meeting ended on schedule at 7 PM ET. Hon. Ikran will travel to meet with Somaliland communities in Dallas, TX, Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH, and will return back to Washington DC on March 27, 2006.
