By Rhoda A. Rageh

Somaliland has come about with sweat, blood and lifetime of devastation and it is being sold so stealthily. One wonders why would anyone submit to stupid ideas like getting our share of donors’ money and compromise the very ideals of our society? One also wonders why would these donors want to help us on conditions that compel us to be part of a government that does not exist, one that still has the properties seized from our people and one that we don’t want to be part of? If we, as intellectuals, politicians and even average citizens, fall for these stupid tactics, then it is our destiny to be with the South and we deserve the periodical genocides.

While our visionless politicians are selling our land and our believe system, our language is being robed from our children and we do not even notice that language assimilation is taking place in our country as we speak. How can we accept ´soor quudheed´ which I am characterizing here as the money that is promised us by these donors. If we are thinking clearly, these donors are effacing us by giving us money. How is this different from the Christian missionary who is reported to have given a small child a candy with one hand and while seizing it with the other convince the impressionable child that ´Jesus gave him the candy and Muhammad took it from him?´ Training of the press is happening in Hargeysa for people from Mogadishu. Why do we accept that? Do people understand, why? Few days ago, some ambassador came to give his credentials to Abdillahi Yusuf first and then to Rayale. What does that mean? What it means is that we share the millions of interest rates accumulating for the Somali government which is hanging on our neck like an albatross for the past debts of Siyad Barre’s bad government but what is worse is that instead of fighting to throw that albatross off our neck, we are adding more debts now used by Abdillahi Yusuf and his cronies. Can we ever learn? Let the World Bank, IMF, UN and the entire NGO´s go away and leave us alone. We would rather not receive any help and whatever they silently bring along.

Haven’t we survived thus without accepting these cheap ideas. Will our greed eventually destroy our vision of independent Somaliland? The new tactic to pacify our people is now coming from the United Nations and donor agencies, if united nations´ retirees are the masterminds of these new tactics, we should be very careful about the country that is slipping from our hands. Now Somaliland intellectuals in the Diaspora should regroup to discuss serious plans to intervene. We need to fight the enemy in our land. We need to warn seriously these unintelligent politicians, deceptive donors and the United Nations if that is what it takes. Clearly our president and his cabinet don’t know what they are doing. If his government can not assess the balance sheet of a fake company, how can they withstand the volcanic pressures of the kinds like Sifir who is determined to put us back in the hands of war loads?

Take this as a serious warning of an extinguishing Somaliland and if you don’t agree to what is going on in our country today, start worrying about the second coming of a more fatal re-union. If the first union was rushed and hasty, the second coming is planned, sly and seeping in like the flood of Noah.
