Dear Somali Voice Reader, It gives me a great pleasure to announce that the Somali Voice newspaper is finally present on the Internet. The objective of this much-needed website (Somali Voice Newspaper) is to have a voice that represents Somali communities in the UK, and to serve as a bridge between governmental, non-governmental agencies and Somali communities across the country. Historically, though the Somali Voice is young in age, it was first published in 2003 by a group of volunteers who understood the importance and the need for a bilingual community based newspaper providing local news of interest to our communities; and the necessity for media representation inspired by the current information-vacuum among Somali communities. The reception and popularity of Somali Voice newspaper among Somali communities has been overwhelming and the response from the local newspapers has been equally encouraging. Furthermore, different organizations in Bristol and Leicester have also contributed and actively participated in launching this community-based newspaper. Although we are limited in resources, the ideal goal is to broaden the reader coverage and achieve higher circulation among Somali communities across UK. The aim of the Somali Voice is to make it easy accessible by launching this website to enable our readers especially late teens and young people to keep in touch with the latest news and views and the hot topics of the day. The Somali Voice website will truly provide and represent views and news concerning and effecting Somali community in United Kingdom. In conclusion, on behalf of Somali Voice team, I would like to thank the organizations and the individuals whose enthusiasm and commitment to the paper and the website have truly contributed a great deal which would be too many to mention and could justly praise in this short paragraphs. We would specially like to thank Neighborhood Renewal, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Quartet Community Foundation for funding this community based newspaper, also we would like to thank Brave Enterprise Agency, CDA and the journalist and editors of the Leicester Mercury and Evening Post for extending welcoming hand to our paper and their support and encouragement Click here to check the Somali Voice Website www.thesomalivoice.co.uk Thank you Kaysar Cabdilaahi Maxamed Editor of the Somali Voice Newspaper The Somali Voice 38-42 Chelsea Road Bristol.
