I am used to seeing stories of corruption in the west. It seems that US and other major governments are incapable of governing their countries without lining their own pockets. Illegal payments to those in power occur frequently often these payments are in return for favors that line the pockets of their friends. Then there are lies that cover up these stories of dishonesty and then the lies to cover up the lies about the lies.

When I pick up a Somaliland paper I can see many stories of the same sort of thing. I read stories from one political party telling lies about other political parties. Then a story is released saying these lies are untrue, but what about these lies about that other party. And so the cycle goes on and on. Recently I read stories about the government and how they are cheating the people of Somaliland, whether it is the story of the first lady and Berbera port or stories about other ministers owning property abroad. Why can’t you be different????

Why can’t you do the right thing, put the interests of the people before your own selfish interests? Somaliland is such a young and poor country, but an outsider would think differently looking at the behavior and spending habits of the government.

Please show the international community that you not as corrupt as they are. Lets become the first African country that doesn’t deal in corruption and lies. Finally show them the way Muslims should be, show them that we follow a religion that condemns corruption abhors lying and promotes rights and education for all.

Please be different.
