On The Road To Recognition |

ISSUE 226

Somaliland’s international quest for statehood is a solid foundation, which has no turning back. Somaliland’s international legal right to be a sovereign state has no question about it, some feel it is necessary to debate about the issue however such debates are pointless. I say this because one can debate until the cows come home however the reality on the ground is what determines the eventual end of any situation. If you clearly look at the situation on the ground one can see Somaliland’s validity because it is a state with all the functions of statehood while its neighbor Somalia bares no resemblance to a state what so ever. Yet there are even articles which funny enough compare Somaliland to a banana republic, not really seeing their own plight it is fair to say the enemies of the state of Somaliland live in a delusional world. These so-called ardent supporters of the union never once voiced concern when the Ariel bombardment of Somaliland was commencing, however. However it could be argued that negative articles and mere slandering is all they have left. Somaliland isn’t asking anyone for her right she will get her right by using her wit and the will of her people. It has already got Somaliland has accomplished everything possible within its power however the final obstacle which has been international recognition still lays ahead. Recognition is only a technicality and in Somaliland’s case as experts predict almost certain however what is uncertain is the timing. What it depends on is the shift and change within international politics and the interest of individual states. It is easy to see that Somalia no longer exists as a functioning entity recognized or not. The eventual conclusion seems obvious. Were Somaliland did lacks momentum was its application for African union membership were Somaliland’s foreign office and government should have been lobbying African countries and it seems they have began to act on that. In the past few months we have witnessed major changes African union initiatives changing, Ethiopia appointing the first diplomatic ambassador, the growing acceptance through out Africa and the wider world of the legitimacy of Somaliland and the failure of the so called TFG of southern Somalia and the constant moaning of an unelected parliament which controls nothing and who’s members are hospitalized every time Somaliland moves closer to Recognition clearly showing their evil intent and misguided policies which will lead to their own eventual destruction. This is the time Somaliland government should push hard to jump the final hurdle to lead this Nations to it eventual goal of a civilized modern state, which benefits all its citizens. That goal is fast becoming a reality. It is a reality, which can only grow stronger in time given unity and cooperation within the country. Abdulidan@hotmail.com
