“Mr. President, Why Do You Want To Turn Our Back On 26 th June? “‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎

By Abdirahman Ibrahim Abdillahi

Politics seems to be one of the elements that every country has in common. Yet some states are worst than the rest when it comes to human rights record, democracy, poverty alleviation, freedom of speech, developmental projects   and rule of law. In order to survive these governments hide facts from their people keeping in mind that by telling the truth the people will remove from the power.

On the other hand those people in power especially in places where bad governments exist they loot the treasury down to the bottom and nurture their power base with a continuous money shower and keep a solid grip on media and intelligence and indeed never embark on projects of long-term benefit because they neither create projects that create new change in the economy of their people nor develop new developmental projects let alone establish new manufacturing base. And if they were asked why such change does not happen yet they make excuses.

Such regimes use people mostly professionals or influential personalities just like a disposable assets. When it comes to promotions existing laws are not respected and there are no merits or de merits based on who you are and what you did to your country and its people but promotions and other privileges are given   only for those who are either relatives or helped the leadership in perpetuating the power. These people in power want only to stay in power as long as they can, and for that reason success is measured only how they eliminate all their enemies and rivals in politics.

However, bad governance is being increasingly regarded as one of the root causes of all evils within our societies. Major donors and international financial institutions are increasingly basing their aid and loans on the condition that reforms that ensure "good governance" are undertaken. Unless our leaders face the reality our country will remain fore ever poor. Therefore, we need a government that not only tell the truth but which is also participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follow the rule of law and assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making as well as responsive to the present and future needs of society.
