The international community headed by the UK and the US have pulled the world into an avoidable global conflict between secularism and ideological Islam. Western powers cooperated in the early 20th century to destroy the final vestige of true Islamic political power in the form of the Ottoman Khilafah. After an initial period of shock, ideological Islam has gradually worked its way back into popularity amongst the masses in the Islamic world, even though Western powers have tried to prevent it. They have supported the most oppressive of dictators. They have employed whatever foul means to ensure the suppression of the true Islamic ideology. However, the call for Islam has only increased and is beginning to bubble over in many Islamic countries.

The Western powers have not hidden their contempt for Islam as a political force. By considering it to be inextricably linked to terrorism, which it is not, they seek to disgrace it. They attack its adherents as extremists and its views as barbaric or medieval. Most of all, they support anyone who fights against it, even if that results in the funding of brutal military dictatorships or corrupt warlords.

During the decades of civil war and tribalism in Somalia, the international community had been relatively mute and relaxed over providing a solution for the suffering of Somalia. The conflict in Somalia was particularly vicious and no nation wished to commit its troops to an unending dangerous war zone. Those that did abandoned Somalia at the first sign of problems.

They focused on establishing a group of politicians who would be loyal to the West to found a powerless interim government as part of a theoretical “nation-building” exercise. That government was mainly supported by Ethiopia. None of the major international power put much effort into helping that interim government to produce actual unity or progress in Somalia.

Now, the Union of Islamic Courts has gained power in the South and the capital, Mogadishu, there has been a flurry of statements supporting the interim government in Baidoa headed by President Abdillahi Yusuf. Ethiopia has pledged troops to defend the interim government if the Islamic Courts seek to move on Baidoa.

They have not supported the system that has sprung from the grass roots. This system has succeeded, to some extent, where the superpowers of this world could not in uniting the warring tribes in Somalia. The international community prefer to attack and threaten the Union of Islamic Courts, through Ethiopia.

Although the chiefs of the interim government in Baidoa are happy to act as Ethiopian agents in Somalia, that is not so for all of the assembly members. Some have openly declared their support for the Islamic Courts and 40 have already resigned due to the interim government's opposition to the Islamic revival. There has been a major split between the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the assembly over this issue over the last week, which has been temporarily resolved.

The Islamic courts have consolidated their influence in the capital, and are seeking further sway over the entire south of the country. They are now attempting to unite the tribes and cleaning the streets.

The Courts have made their intentions quite clear.

“Unity must be the target of young Islamic men in the country and that is what we always devote life” Sheik Sharif Sheikh Ahmed told a gathering in the Sii Sii neighborhood last week. “The community of Somalia has passed from Clan era to Islamic era so, are you taking the ideology with us?” he asked.

The gathering shouted “Yes! Allahu Akbar.”

The case of Somalia indicates that the Ummah in all parts of the Islamic world is approaching a point where they are demanding the re-establishment of Islam. The thoughts sentiments and emotions are all for Islam in many parts of the world. There are many pointers to the fact that this Ummah is ripe for Islamic rule. Conversely there is also much evidence that the forces that oppose Islam are working with verve and gusto to stamp out this Ummah's wish and desire.

May Allah (swt) allow the Muslims to implement his Deen correctly, in whatever part of the world, and that people in the wider-areas may benefit and the in turn the whole world. Ameen.
