Awards & Celebrations At The Second Somaliland Convention

Washington DC, September 12, 2006 – Following two days of serious and stimulating discussions on wide ranging issues such as International Recognition, Governance, Democratization, Current Political Affairs, Economic Development & Natural resources, Civil society and State, the Somaliland convention switched into a celebratory mode on the night of Saturday , September 09, 2006. At a spacious ballroom on the first floor of the DoubleTree Hotel, the estimated over 900 participants of the convention, who came from all the continents of the world, settled down to enjoy a delicious dinner, listened to a live music from a Minnesota and watched a fashion show and folklore dances performed skillfully by Somaliland youth mostly from Columbus, Ohio both boys and girls. The participants, men and women of all ages, danced to the melody of music and lyrics of songs that oscillated from patriotism to love. Motivated by a desire to instill pride and esteem for dedication to public service, Somaliland Policy and Research Institute (SOPRI) recognized Somalilanders and friends of Somaliland and distributed well deserved awards to highly motivated and dedicated individuals hoping that others would follow their examples. Dedication as a Media entity for Excellence in Journalism Radio Horyaal 4. Dedication as a freelance Journalism Magan Ibrahim 5. Dedication as a Diaspora Organization for Community Services Somaliland Community in Minnesota (Presented to Hassan Yunis, Osman Shardeed (Cadanni & Ibrahim Ime) 6. Social Justice & Democracy UFFO GROUP (Presented to Dr. Mohamoud SH. Hassan Tani) 7. Leadership for Peace & Reconciliation in Somaliland Somaliland Internal Conflict Reconciliation Committee (Presented to: Hassan Megag Samater, Faisal Ali Farah (Warabe), Dr. Hussein Bulhan and Abdi Hussein Issa) 8.
