Geneva , September 14, 2006 – The World Health Organization welcomes the Republic of Montenegro (formerly part of Serbia and Montenegro) as WHO's 193rd Member State.
This follows the Republic of Montenegro's admission to membership in the United Nations on 28 June 2006. When the United Nations admits a new Member State, it may also become a Member State of WHO by signing or accepting the Constitution of the Organization. The Republic of Montenegro deposited its instrument of acceptance of the WHO Constitution with the Secretary General of the United Nations on 29 August 2006. The last country to join WHO was the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in September 2002. For more information contact: Fadela Chaib, Communications Officer, Geneva
