Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 21, 2006 (SL Times) – Chairman of Kulmiye party, Ahmed Sillanyo was given a warm welcome at Hargeysa Egal international airport on Thursday by Kulmiye party officials and supporters on his return home from the UK.

Ahmed Sillanyo, chairman of Kulmiye left the country back in early September for a private visit to the UK. Stepping out onto the airport tarmac at Hargeysa Egal international airport high ranking Kulmiye party officials and supporters lined themselves ready to greet and welcome back home their leader who has been out of the country for over a month. Among those, first to greet Ahmed Sillanyo on the ground were the vice-deputy chairman of the lower house of parliament, Bashe M Farah; the vice-chair of Kulmiye party, Mohamed S Fagade; former vice-president of Somaliland Abdirahman A Farah; spokesman for UCID party Hassan Hussein; spokesman for Kulmiye party, Mohamed Kahin and Osman A Egal (Hindi) head of Kulmiye party branch for Hargeysa region. Also, present were lower house of parliament members from Kulmiye and UCID parties and traditional leaders, elders and as well in their hundreds Kulmiye party supporters.

Ahmed Sillanyo, briefly spoke to the local media in the VIP lounge at Egal international airport on his arrival but declined to take any questions from the press and said ‘I am not in a position to take your questions’. And said ‘Nor can I make any comments on sensitive issues affecting the country at this very moment in time until I have been fully briefed by my party officials and given an up to date assessment of the current internal situation of the country’. Chairman of Kulmiye party, Mr. Ahmed Sillanyo said that he needs to be updated on those events taken place in the country and the region as whole the while he was out of the country. He said ‘He was very happy and full of joy to return back home and is looking forward to seeing old friends, family and associates and be again among his people and country.

Chairman of Kulmiye party, said the purpose of his trip abroad was for private reasons and while in the UK did meet UK party members in Kulmiye meetings but did not engage in any other business. Ahmed Sillanyo, in his brief press statement in the VIP lounge at Egal international airport apologized to the local press for not answering their questions and said ‘He will be in a better position in the coming weeks to hold a proper press conference once he is comfortable in having being briefed fully with present state of the country’s affairs.

Ahmed Sillanyo, chairman of Kulmiye party wished the people of Somaliland good tidings for the month of Ramadan and gave his condolence to those who had lost their loved ones in the recent floods in Buroa and Togdheer region.

While traveling from the airport to his private residence in Hargeysa, Ahmed Sillanyo stopped by at Hargeysa General Hospital to pay a courtesy visit to former Secretary of Kulmiye party, Mr Daud M Gelle who recently was taken by an illness. The chairman of Kulmiye party prayed for the quick recovery of Daud M Gelle and wished him and all the patients in the hospital the best of good health.
