The Threats Of The Islamists Should Not Sidetrack Somaliland

By Mo Bashir, Abuja, Nigeria

“We applaud the courage of Haatuf newspapers and we remind them that as the ancient Jewish sage Ben Joseph AKIBA said: "The paper burns, but the words fly away." or as the Awdalian poet Caarre said when the enemy found him traveling alone and wanted to kill him: " Kill me but the news will fly away with the wind." Therefore, neither Haatuf nor any other responsible and courageous media outlet can afford to be intimidated to a dereliction of duty. You should continue serving the public by exposing the truth. The truth haters can only burn papers but the truth will fly away with the wind.”

The above are the words of Bashir Goth, the editor in chief of Awdal News, in praise of Haatuf for its campaign to depict Buroa as a terrorist heaven.  Finally, Bashir it appears has found an ally in his long war against Islam in Yusuf Gabobe, editor of Haatuf.  Hallaluja..

If I was not the cynic I am, I would have said Bashir is more excited about Haatuf’s new allegiance to Rayale than about its condemnation of Buroa as a terrorist magnet.  Which of the two is it, I wonder?

The recent debate about Islamic terrorism and Buroa and Haatuf’s campaign is master minded and financed by Rayale.  Therefore, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that Bashir is happy about having Yusuf in his camp.

It is truly sad to read Mr. Gabobe and Haatuf threaten Buroa citizens and say: “Markaad gubtaan Haatuf, waxay ka dhigan tahay anagoo gubna bakhaaradiina iyo meheradihiina oo nidhaahna waxaad gubteen jaraa’idkayagii.  In effect this is a veiled threat that has clannish undertone.  To go this low and create the most unproductive environment of US against THEM is childish.  If it’s the protector of Somaliland sovereignty, as it claims to be, Haatuf should perhaps focus less on Buroa and report more on the conditions of Somaliland troops in Adhi-Cadeeye for the past three years.  It should focus less on creating non-existing stories and fabrications and analyze the threats the current administration presents the country.

As for Bashir, some of his comments and analysis are so far removed from reality, he risks being removed as Rayale’s chief propagandist soon.
