A troubling report from Somalia with a gruesome warning of the regional conflagration to come

Channel 4 exclusive report.

By: Lucy Hannan.

1 Nov 2006 - It's the Jihad's next front - celebrated in a new Islamist video produced inside Somalia - now obtained by Channel 4 News.

Since radical Islamists took over the Somali capital in May - they've been condemned around the world for links to Al Qaida and terrorism.

Talks with the interim government have now stalled: the foreign minister warning today that war was 'more likely than not'.

The conflict's already sent tens of thousands of refugees fleeing the country - as we reported last week: that exodus could get far worse.

Militia from the Union of Islamic Courts have pressed on after their success in Mogadishu - expanding their influence westward toward the city of Baidoa where the "official" government resides.

Film-maker Lucy Hannan has covered the region extensively. She's returned to Somalia since the Islamist takeover - for a rare glimpse of life under the new regime. This is her exclusive report.
