Mogadishu, November 13, 2006 – Islamic authorities in the Somalia capital Mogadishu have endorsed overnight the decision by the Kenyan government in which it suspended all flights to Somalia.

In a meeting held in Mogadishu last night between Islamic Courts officials and some religious men in Banadir province, they discussed over how it would start religious awareness towards telling the good acts and clearing the evil.

The head of the Islamist Disciplinary Part, Sheik Qasim Sheik Mohamed told the local media after the meeting that they agreed to stand for stopping all drug items and welcoming the move by the Kenyan government that it cancelled all flights of Khat exporting to Somalia starting from today.

Many khat dealers in Somalia capital Mogadishu are not pleasant with the Kenyan decision describing it as shocking.

Somali Islamic Courts believe that stopping Khat exporting would save thousands of dollars Somalia.

In southern regions of the country, the Islamic Courts already banned the sale and the consumption of the Khat green leafy and also trade of cigarettes.

The decision by the Kenyan government of stopping flights to Somalia seems pleasing Islamic Courts who have been these days lobbying for how they would ban the trade of Khat, the most popular leafy in their controlled areas.

Sheik Mohamed said that his part was involving in preaching the business people in the capital to abstain the trade of Khat and other related drugs and also stop the interest rate in their business.

The statement came as Kenya government announced it has suspended all flight activities to and From Somalia due to security reasons and it follows wider movements by the Kenyan security forces in border with Somalia.
