Hargeysa, December 9, 2006 (SL Times) – The Justice and Welfare party (UCID) leader, Mr Faisal Ali Warabe warned the Somaliland government that its enemies are planning to destabilize Somaliland by means of terrorist attacks and tribal conflict. UCID party leader, in a press conference held on Wednesday (06/12/06) in UCID party headquarters in Hargeysa said that he has ‘credible evidence that forces in Mogadishu are planning to carryout terrorist attacks in Somaliland’. Faisal Ali Warabe said ‘also at the same time we are getting reports from the west of the country that the Djibouti administration is fuelling tribal hatred between the Awdal region clans’. In his press conference, UCID party leader read out a statement, concerning what he called ‘the enemies of Somaliland’ working to destabilize the country. He said ‘the peace and security of Somaliland is facing a serious threat from in and outside the country. We know recently that some disgruntled Somalilanders held an anti-Somaliland conference in Washington, USA, but did not get the media coverage they wished but did get a large coverage from the BBC Somali service’. UCID party leader said,’ this is no surprise to us for we have always known that the BBC Somali Service leads the coalition of anti-Somaliland propaganda, thanks to Yusuf Garad, the chief editor of the Somali language section of the BBC World Service’. Mr. Faisal Ali Warabe, in his press statement issued a wakeup call to the Rayale administration and said ‘its time the government of Somaliland woke up from its chronic inaction and the docility beyond its incompetence when it comes to security and foreign policy’. He said ‘the government of Somaliland should implement policies which will strengthen the unity of the country and formulate a military and security plan which will repel outside aggressions. The UCID party chairman was asked by Somaliland Times, how he knew terrorist attacks are being planned in Mogadishu to destabilize Somaliland? He replied, ‘ we have sufficient intelligence from local and foreign sources and is no secret that the Islamic courts are planning to destroy Somaliland’s hard won peace and security’.
