Puntland security forces have not been paid in months

GAROWE, Somalia, Dec 13 (Garowe Online) - Angry police officers exchanged gunfire Wednesday with President Mohamud “Adde” Muse’s security forces, witnesses and officials reported.

President Adde Muse, the Puntland leader, was on an official visit to the central police station in Garowe, the State capital, when police officers let several prisoners “loose” in protest against the President’s visit.

According to eyewitness accounts, a heated argument ensued thereafter, which then led to the two armed groups opening fire on each other. No one was reported hurt during the incident.

The police officers were protesting against   at least 4 months of nonpayment by the Adde Muse administration.

The sources said President Adde Muse stormed out of the building in anger. It was the first time Puntland police opened fire on   the   President.

Yesterday, some Puntland soldiers turned to criminal activities to survive after being neglected by the government. The soldiers robbed a Galkayo   bank and escaped.
