Buroa, Somaliland, December 23, 2006 (SL Times) – Delegates from the Somaliland Policy and Reconstruction Institute (SOPRI) who are part of the Goodwill Mission delegation to Somaliland arrived on Wednesday in Buroa, the capitol of Togdheer region for consultations with officials and government heads of the region.

The Goodwill Mission was put together under the auspices of the September 2006 Somaliland Conference in Washington DC to promote cooperation and understanding among the state organs in Somaliland and to facilitate consultation on major issues of national interest.

A team of distinguished delegates, members of the European and North America Diaspora are presently in the country to help resolve some of the key challenges facing the country. The delegation has been in the country for the past fortnight.

Somaliland Times , reporter in Togdheer region Mr. Ahmed Adan Yusuf said the delegation comprising of three people arrived after visiting Sool and Sanag regions. The delegation told Ahmed Adan that they were part of the Goodwill delegation sent to Togdheer, Sool and Sanag regions to assess and facilitate consultation on major issues facing the country with the regions heads, elders and civil societies, while the rest of the Sopri ‘Goodwill delegation’ were covering the western regions of the country.

The delegation met the regional governor and mayor of Buroa and other heads of Togdheer region where they were briefed and given accounts of development issues and problems facing the region.

Head of the delegation in Buroa, Mr. Abdi Ismail Yonis gave an introduction of the ‘Goodwill Mission’ delegation and said that “there prime object in traveling to the country was to gather as much as possible information and data on the current affairs and challenges facing Somaliland and compile these findings in a report for their organization who will in turn use this information to campaign on behalf the country for recognition and for getting development aid be given to Somaliland.”
