Gadabuursi Manifesto: Giving Voice To The Silent Majority

What Are The Issues That Surround The Selection Of The National Electoral Commission (NEC)?

By Abdi Goud Musa, Connecticut, USA

I can not agree more with this title, and one does not have to be Gadabursi to commend and thank Abdishakur Sheikh Ali Jowhar for thought provoking and deep piece.

Personally, I am persuaded to put my two cents here by Dr. Abdisalan Yasin Mohamed's piece titled " A jewel from A Jewel", and the harsh comments some responds of Dr. Abdishakur's piece.

As some one who is not Gadabuursi by birth but happen to love many Gadabuursi persons through friendship and because of how my life was enriched by going to Amoud Intermediate school when I was teenager, I gave myself a free pass to get into this tribal debate among Gadabuursi elite.

First, I commend and thank Dr. Abdisalaan Yasin Mohamed (whom I have great admiration for his great role in the founding of the SNM and the sacrifice he did for   our people) for sharing with his readers including me the great contribution that Sheikh Ali Jowhar may Allah bless his soul had on Somalis from all tribal spectrum of Somalia.

Second, I am here to add that Sheikh Ali Jowhar's children and students took his torch and are still carrying it. I do remember when I was in elementary in Hargeisa going to Abdilqaadir Sheikh Ali Jowhar's book store.

I heard and appreciated Sheikh Abdillahi Sheikh Ali Jowhar's stand of the Somali civil war in 1988. He was the only one I heard of who publicly opposed looted articles   from Hargeisa region to be brought and sold in Awdal in 1988.

Third, I had known Dr. Abdishakur since 1968 when we were both at Intermediate   School. I was in Amoud when he was at Borama Day. We went together Benadir Secondary school in early 1970's. I met him on cyberspace in late 199o's.<\s><\s>

Since 1960's Dr. Abdishakur Sheikh Ali Jowahar was one of the cream of the crop and the best brains that Somalia has to offer. He never wavered and compromised his principles and standing on the issues. He have been participating and constructively   contributing to the well being of mankind in general and his Somali people in particular.

Lastly, to my humble opinion, Dr. Abdishakur have every right to call a spade a spade. He have every right to speak his mind and pinpoint the weaknesses of the Rayale administration. We Somalis cannot escape from the realities of our people. If Abdishakur sees the danger of being silent about the miscarriage of justice of Rayale administration and guilt by association that one day that he may be held him accountable for mistakes or misjudgments done by others, he have to distance himself. I do commend and thank again Dr. Abdishakur Sh. Ali Jowhar for being good role model. I am making a vow if Faisal Ali Warabe becomes president of Somaliland and puts people in jail for what one writes or says, I will do exactly, as Dr. Abdishakur.
