Freedom of speech is not a living thing, so it doesn’t have an emotions or feelings nor can it see or hear or feel pain. But in relation to the Haatuf News affairs, President Rayaale and his family are humans like us and they can feel everything freedom of speech can’t. So who deserves protection’ the president and his family or freedom of speech?

As an outside observer I think people who run Somaliland media use freedom of speech for their own purposes and if anybody is abusing freedom of speech in Somaliland, it must be those who run the media.

Anyone with clear conscious knew that the Haatuf News journalists were guilty before they were even convicted, but those of us who believed that the crimes were committed have kept quiet and waited justice to be served, not in the world of gossiping but in the court of law. However many people couldn’t over come their abhorrence towards the government and their prejudices blindfolded them from the truth. But thanks God justice took its revenge at last.

In the eyes of many it is not the first time Haatuf News editors crossed the line, but it is the first time the Somaliland justice caught up with them. Seemingly we are quick to forget but these men had campaigned recklessly last parliament election to deny the rights of many good Somaliland people.

Let me jog your memory back to that election and explain what heck I am on about. Remember the fuss over the six villages between Hargeisa district and Awdal. Haatuf News editors were the main cause and they were the ones who were fuelling the situation, and because of the Haatuf’s racist campaign many of these people had been denied to vote. But Haatuf News managements have never faced any criticism whatsoever.

In my view I don’t give a damn whether these villagers join with Hargeisa district or Awdal and as far as I am concern they are cousins and nieces and nephews but I hate those who create enemies amongst our people.

In the current episode it seems we are forgetting that we have a system of justice and I believe it is time we should put our trust in to the hand of our criminal justice. We are becoming a cynical nation and every time something which we don’t like occurs we are being suspicious and we are quick to condemn the government.

These men stole a government’s properties, they also intruded the privacy of citizens, forget about Huda Barkhad’s title as first lady for a moment and think about her as your fellow citizen. Every one knows that the president and his family can own their own private properties, so what new evidence these men had provided so far 0%.

They told us how many houses the president and his family have, and I say good for them what a hardworking family they are! They told as they have employed people who have another two or three jobs and I say what a great idea, because instead of employing lazy bastards why not employ some one who is willing to work hard. ‘And by the way if the first lady employs one or two people from her family where is the crime in that.

The lonely driver who made those ludicrous allegations and who also admitted stealing from his employer was working for the President and his family and in my understanding he is not related to them. So he is not only a thief but he is also a lair.

Haatuf also introduced to us many stolen documents and we should condemn the crime they have committed instead of praising them because thieving is not the way to prove guilty. You can not commit a crime in order to prove someone’s guilt.

I believe Haatuf News journalists are the ones who have been caught on red handed; these men shamelessly took a camera and have followed this motherly woman around presumably years and they violated her privacy. So where is the innocent in that?

From where I stand, these men thought to themselves that they were above the law and I am glad they have been proved wrong. I also believe that the president’s comment about pardoning them was mistake and he shouldn’t get involve with the court’s verdict.

Mind you I can not understand why the president is even thinking pardoning these men because there are many other prisoners who would have appreciate his concerns unlike these men. But it seems he is more human than I am.

In conclusion

It is obvious many people in the media are supporting Haatuf News’ journalists by showing their solidarity and Awdalnews is a classic example. But the president and his family are also human and they deserve some justice too.

So those of you who idolise freedom of speech or dare to use it as a licence to insult our mothers/sisters, should know that freedom of speech will always take the back seat when it comes to the irreplaceable Somaliland values.

Ha idiin macanaato!
