Kampala, 24 March 2007 - Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said here Friday there is no need for the United Nations to send troops to Somalia, according to a statement from State House.
Museveni made this comment while meeting Tuliamen Kalomoh, the Assistant Secretary General in charge of the UN technical assistance mission.
Uganda has sent several batches of troops to volatile Somalia since early this month.
So far, the Ugandan troops, who were carrying out missions in Mogadishu, Somali capital, are the only peacekeepers deployed under the auspice of the African Union, which has proposed sending a 1,500 strong peacekeeping force to the Horn of Africa country.
