Text of report by Somaliland independent daily newspaper Haatuf on 6 April

A large explosion took place at around 9.00 p.m. last evening in Sha'abka neighborhood in Hargeysa [the capital of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland]. The explosion occurred near the headquarters of Criminal Investigations Department in Hargeysa.

The explosion took place at a time while people were still awake., and most of them gathered at the scene of the explosion,. At that time police forces were present at there carrying out investigations at the place which is very close to CID headquarters.

Reporters from Haatuf newspaper who went to the scene said they have not seen any visible destruction or damage at the scene. Although the sound of the explosion was very loud and has resulted in shaking the roofs of the houses near the area, there is no visible damage.

We tried to contact the CID commander, Ahmad Aw Ali Shabeel, at around 10.00 p.m. [local time] to ask him about details of the explosion, but it was not possible to find him on the telephone.

We also contacted the Somaliland police chief, Muhammad Saqadhi Dubad, by telephone and he refused to comment on the issue.

This is the fourth explosion to take place in Hargeysa within a week. The government did not issue any statement about who was behind the explosions. No one has been harmed in the explosions and no arrests have been made in connection with the actions.
