Somaliland International Recognition Action Group (SIRAG) Press Release

London , UK, April 16, 2007 – SIRAG would like to send condolences to the soldiers of the Republic of Somaliland who died in the recent clash in Dhahar as well as their families and relatives. SIRAG would also like to extend their support to the Honorable Army of the Republic of Somaliland for defending their nation and borders. Somaliland has come a long way and it is important to remember that our nation would not go back to the chaos of war which is still haunting the Horn of Africa to date.

SIRAG would like to remind the citizens of Somaliland, political parties, parliament, Guurti and the civil societies of the Republic of Somaliland that they have a responsibility in safeguarding the well being of all the citizens of Somaliland State. The borders of Somaliland are not negotiable and the neighbors of Somaliland must know that their aggression to cross into the borders of Somaliland and claim regions of Somaliland would only backfire at them.

We all know that the Horn of Africa is going through crisis and the Republic of Somaliland must be vigilant and secure their borders from any sort of aggression. The government of Somaliland has a duty to protect its international borders so that they can exercise their sovereignty. The Army of Somaliland must be given their inalienable right to govern the country without being tied to outside factors that might weaken their strategy to protect their nation. We must not forget that the Army of Somaliland have a duty to protect their nation in which their live also depends. We must not take this lightly and remind the government that they can not use the Army of Somaliland as a channel for negotiation. Somaliland Government through their lack of decision making is putting the lives of Somaliland people and that of the Army in a dangerous and vulnerable situation.

Lastly the nation of Somaliland must not fail the inspiration of the people of Somaliland to enjoy peace and security including those in Dhahar who welcomed the Army with flowers and showered them with feelings of patriotism. It is also time for aid and regeneration projects to be extended in Dhahar and other regions of Somaliland which have been patient long enough.

SIRAG would like to finally remind the government of Somaliland, the parliament, the Guurti and the political parties of the Republic of Somaliland that they must honor their duty in securing the borders of Somaliland which will not only fulfill the will of the people of Somaliland to have an independent and sovereign state of their own but will also fulfill one of the criteria for Somaliland to be recognized as an independent sovereign state.

God Bless Somaliland.

Marwo Lulu Farah
