Jijiga, Ethiopia, April 23, 2007 – The joint security committee formed in bordering woredas of the Somali State and Somaliland in undertaking extensive crime prevention activities, the Jijiga Zone Police Department said.

Commander Mohammed Abdillahi told WIC yesterday that durable peace has been established in the bordering woredas owing to the joint activities carried out by the committee on security matters.

He said the committee on Ethiopian side comprises of members from the state and federal police, finance police, immigration police, the defense force and members drawn from the adjacent woredas.

The joint security committee is taking measures that prevent anti-peace activities, including illegal trafficking of arms, Commander Mohammed added.

According to him, criminal activities which were rampant in the border town of Togochalee have been declining since the establishment of the joint committee.

The head finally called upon the public to further enhance their cooperation with the police force in exposing anti-peace and anti-development elements thus ensuring peace and order of the state.
