The Mayor Of Hargeysa—The New Mohammed Dheere Of Somaliland

Somaliland Civil Aviation & Air Transportation Minister, Mr Ali Mohamed Waran Adde

Hargeysa, 21 July, 2007 (SL Times) – Somaliland Civil Aviation & Air Transportation Minister, Mr Ali Mohamed Waran Adde, told the Hargeysa-based Somaliland Independent TV (SLTV) on Wednesday that his ministry is half way to completing the installation of night-time landing runway lights for Egal international Hargeysa airport.

The minister said, "from the 1st of August, I am hopeful that this new nighttime landing runway light system will be operational, and that the airport will be able to handle day-time and night-time flights, 24 hours, round the clock. It would be the first time in the history of the airport that airplanes will be able to land during the night in Hargeysa".

"We have completed the first phase of the landing runway installation system, and are about to test during the coming days the 2nd phase of the installation," the Somaliland minister of Aviation said.

In addition, the minister also made it known that he has fitted security and surveillance cameras in and outside the airport. "The airport, initially, had no security airport cameras to monitor the safety of the passengers and airline operators, for this reason I embarked on setting up a net of security cameras whereby the airport security can monitor the airport, passengers and vehicles using the airport," the minister explained.

"I am sure we have made the right decision to invest in making our airport safe and secure for passengers and those working in the airport," Waran Adde added.

Mr Waran Adde has also given the airport grounds and parking lot a face lift, and has landscaped the once dusty airport grounds with paved roads, garden trees, flowers, bushes and a fountain water pool. The minister has also erected large canvassed canopies with seating areas for the people waiting for passengers or seeing them off outside the terminal airport building.

The minister of Aviation and Air Transport, Mr Ali Mohamed Waran Adde, is famed in Somaliland for being a competent minister who delivers service to the public.
