The Management of Radio Banadir confirmed for NUSOJ the death of their reporter. The motive of the attack is still unknown. Family members, fellow journalists and friends buried Abdulkadir after Friday prayers in Bardhere district, the headquarters of Gedo.

Abdulkadir Mahad Moallim Kaskey, who left from Mogadishu after attending journalism training, was an active NUSOJ member and visited the union's office yesterday morning to submit some documents from their Branch. The murdered journalist met with NUSOJ Executives Ali Moallim Isak and Abdirashid Abdullahi Haydar. "We were discussing the working conditions of journalists in Gedo and South-western regions in general, and he was an active member in his Branch," said Ali Moallim Isak, NUSOJ's Organising Secretary.

"This is really agonizing act, and we strongly condemn this roughshod killing of Abdulkadir Mahad Moallim" said Omar Faruk Osman, Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists. "The killing of a colleague is sore and insensate act, but the exceptionally painful thing is when you can not get justice for killing of the colleague". "We demand justice, we seek the killer(s) to be punished, and we are starting working with Provincial Administration in Gedo region and the transitional government to punish the killer (s)" he added.

Abdulkadir Mahad Moallim Kaskey is the third journalist killed in two weeks in southern Somalia and is the seventh journalist killed so far this year in Somalia.

"We urge the International Community to demand and carry out International Investigation of the killing of Journalists as the fatal attacks on journalists and violations of press freedom are soaring day after day," said Omar Faruk.
