Dear Mr President

First of all, I like to express how proud we are to have you as president, something that many countries feel jealous about. Where in Africa, will you see a president who makes election every two years or so? Where in Africa, will you see a president who sacks his parliament and make people choose a new one that has many opposition members? Even in the mediation talk’s lead by Hadraawi and Sheekh Dirir, you stood up confidently and showed us what it means to be a wise president. Today after the mediation talks, All Somalilanders can hear in radios and newspapers, the difference between comments coming from you and from some arrogant opposition leaders who seem to be not interested in opening a new white page for Somaliland’s politics.

Dear President, now it is the time we can go back to our international problem which is lack of recognition. As you are aware, the AU, EU and USA are delaying our case until the problems in Somalia are solved. Hearing the news everyday, the situation is only getting worse and worse. Thus, we can say the AU and the UN are unable to make peace and reconciliation in Somalia for 16 years. I am not a expert in international relationships, but as a common sense I ask you, if Somaliland solves the problem that the UN and big countries couldn’t do, would not that make our case for independence stronger? If you we arguing that Somaliland is an independent state, why not then act like other independent states in Africa like Eritrea and do something about Somalia?

The fact is other nations do not understand the real problems in Somalia. As Somalilanders, we know it and from our history, experience in governance, living coherently between many clans in Somaliland and from our love for peace, we can help Somalia today and it is our golden chance to prove to the world how valuable Somaliland can be in changing the world. Today we should step up from being peaceful to making peace outside our borders. And I am confident with these great peace heroes we have in our country like Abwaan Hadraawi and Sheekh Dirir, we can make peace in Somalia. We are not a nation that sits down and waits, so let’s invite all political leaders in the safest place in Somaliland to end this war and show the world what Somaliland and its president is all about: peace, maturity and leadership.

Regards

Liiban Ahmed
