Mogadishu, 5 Oct. 2007 - Government forces are poised to take positions at more than 50 areas around Somalia's capital, in the area of Banadir in an effort to restore peace and order, Somalia's English-daily Radio Shabelle reported.

The National Security Committee, along with Banadir and Ethiopian officials have agreed to set up more than 50 bases in Mogadishu to be run by the Transitional Federal Government Forces (TFG) to maintain security and stability.

According to Mohammed Muhyindin Ali, spokesperson for the Banadir area said the town would be divided into four main zones. These include one of the most violent streets in Mogadishu and parts of the main market.

"The main four parts divided the town include Walyow Adde, the eastern part, the central part and the western part. In this effort each part would be assigned to its own deputy chairman of the Banadir region, a police chief and a security chief," said the spokesperson.

Authorities in the region of Banadir pledged to compensate a soldier who gets killed or injured in the security operation.

Any soldier who dies will receive 5,000 Somali Shillings, (approximately 2.7 euros) while an injured soldier will receive full medical treatment.

Radio Shabelle, Somalia's privately-owned english language news source and media network, had been shut down by transitional government militia on 18 September and it was reopened on 2 October.
