Garowe, October 17, 2007 – A Puntland regional government official has today urged the international community to intervene in the conflict between Somaliland and Puntland. The Puntland Information Ministry, in a news conference, urged the international community to intervene in the conflict in Sool Region especially in the recent fighting between Somaliland and Puntland over Sool Region. The news conference by the Puntland regional administration urged the international community to intervene in the conflict between the two administrations of Somaliland and Puntland. The Puntland administration described the recent fighting as provocative action against the Puntland government. The statement which was signed by the Puntland minister of information, revealed losses suffered by Puntland in the fighting. It said up to nine Puntland soldiers were killed and over ten injured in the fighting. The minister admitted four military vehicles were also lost in the fighting. The minister said they inflicted heavy casualties on Somaliland that included injuries, military vehicles and the killing of a senior Somaliland army officer [as heard].
