Ohio, US, October 20, 2007 (UNISA) – Recently, the College of Human Science's Dr. Iqbal Jhazbhay presented research papers in Ohio in the USA and Havana in South America. In the States, Dr Jhazbhay presented a paper underlying his 400-page study on Somaliland's rare stability in the Horn at the 2007 Triennial Ohio Congress on "Somali Studies in the 21st Century: Local and Global Perspectives" (http://www.somalistudies.org/etc/finalprogram.pdf). The Somali Studies International Association recently celebrated 30 years of promoting interest in the Horn of Africa and knowledge of Somali studies (1978-2008). This Congress hosted by the Ohio State University's Centre for African Studies in Columbus, Ohio which "now ranks seventh nationally among all public universities in research expenditures and a remarkable second place when it comes to industry-sponsored research" ( http://www.osu.edu/news/newsitem1825). Cuba visit highly successful The recent visit to Havana, Cuba, to develop mutual exchanges of knowledge, proved highly successful. South Africa's Embassy to Cuba, arranged for Dr. Jhazbhay to address a roundtable on the " Horn of Africa and US Hegemony" at the Centre for Studies on Africa and the Middle East (CEAMO). This is a multi-disciplinary Centre, which has concentrated on the evolution of Cuban relations with Africa and the Middle East since 1959 (http://www.nodo50.org/ceamo/). In addition, Dr. Jhazbhay also met with the Cuban Foreign Ministry's Horn of Africa staff, for a mutual exchange of views on the Horn. On two earlier occasions in 2007, Dr. Jhazbhay was in Accra, Ghana, to address specialist audiences on prospects for stability and self-determination in the Horn of Africa at the Kofi Anan International Training Centre.
